HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath said immediate action is being taken to identify and remove dangerous buildings in Anjaiah Nagar to prevent loss of life.
Commissioner Ranganath, along with Kukatpally Zonal Commissioner Mayank Singh, inspected the ongoing building removal works on Monday. The inspection followed the collapse of a seven-storey building in Anjaiah Nagar, Serilingampally Mandal, on Saturday. Another seven-storey building located next to it was also found to be in a dangerous condition.
The CMC and HYDRAA jointly began the removal of the damaged structure on Sunday, with the work continuing on Monday. Local residents also reported that several other nearby buildings appeared unsafe. Officials inspected these structures and said necessary action would be taken if they were found to pose a risk.
According to Commissioner Ranganath, some of the buildings were constructed on plots of around 50 square yards after encroaching upon a portion of a flood canal. While permissions were reportedly obtained for only two floors, the foundations and pillars were designed accordingly, but additional floors were later constructed without adequate structural capacity.
He said action would be taken against buildings constructed without proper permissions or in violation of regulations, while ensuring that neighbouring apartments and structures are not put at risk.
Officials are taking extra precautions during the demolition to protect nearby buildings. The process is taking longer because residents were evacuated in advance and safety measures are being followed throughout the operation.
