In a move aimed at reflecting the spiritual and geographical significance of the region, the Telangana government has officially renamed two villages near *Srisailam. *Eegalapenta has been renamed to *Krishna Giri, and *Domalapenta will now be known as Brahmagiri.
Why the Name Change?
The renaming decision was taken to align with local heritage and tourism development plans.
‘Krishna Giri’ references the nearby *Krishna River, which holds immense cultural and spiritual value in the region. On the other hand, ‘Brahmagiri’ symbolizes the *mythological and sacred relevance of the area surrounding Srisailam, a major pilgrimage center in South India.
Government Orders Implementation Across Departments
The government has directed *all public offices, **schools, **health centers, **gram panchayats, and other departments to *update signage and records with the new names. Land records, government notifications, and official documents must also be amended accordingly.
A Boost for Tourism and Regional Identity
Officials believe that these new names will enhance the area’s identity, promote spiritual tourism, and encourage development initiatives. Local communities have reportedly welcomed the change, hoping it will bring improved infrastructure and visibility to their villages.
