Tragedy in Chhatarpur: Pickup Vehicle Swept Away in Flooded Dhasan River at Pachri Ghat

Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh | July 14, 2025:

Heavy rains in Chhatarpur district led to a tragic incident at *Pachri Ghat, where a **pickup vehicle was swept away by the overflowing Dhasan River, resulting in the death of one man. Two others were rescued in a timely operation by local police and *State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams.

The vehicle reportedly ignored barricades placed near a broken culvert and attempted to cross the flooded area late at night. The culvert had been damaged due to the river’s strong current, which resulted from continuous downpours over the previous 24 hours.

Police & SDRF Launch Overnight Rescue Operation

Ishanagar Police Station In-Charge, Shailendra Saxena, said the rescue team acted swiftly upon receiving the alert.

“Around midnight, we received information that a vehicle had been swept away near Pachri Ghat, located at the border of Tikamgarh and Chhatarpur districts. We immediately began a rescue operation,” he stated.

Two individuals were pulled out safely during the night. However, *one man was found crushed under the pickup, confirming a fatality. The road near the *culvert had caved in approximately 20 meters from the main highway, further complicating rescue efforts.

Connectivity Hit in Multiple Villages After Continuous Rainfall

Chhatarpur Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Akhil Rathore reported that incessant rainfall had disrupted road connectivity to 8–10 villages in the Chhatarpur tehsil.

“Several culverts have been damaged across the district. Barricades were placed at Pachri Ghat after the culvert was washed away, and roads in affected areas were officially closed for safety,” said SDM Rathore.

Unfortunately, the pickup vehicle removed the barricades and attempted to drive through, underestimating the river’s force. The tragic outcome serves as a grim reminder of the dangers of ignoring official warnings during monsoon floods.
