Union Cabinet Approves PM E-DRIVE Scheme with Rs 10,900 Crore Outlay to Boost Electric Mobility

*New Delhi, September 11, 2024* – In a significant move to promote electric mobility across the country, the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the Ministry of Heavy Industries’ (MHI) ambitious “PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE)” Scheme. The scheme aims to revolutionize the electric vehicle (EV) sector by offering extensive demand incentives to accelerate the adoption of electric two-wheelers (e-2Ws), three-wheelers (e-3Ws), e-ambulances, e-trucks, and emerging EV technologies.With a total outlay of ₹10,900 crore over a two-year period, the PM E-DRIVE Scheme seeks to create a robust ecosystem for electric mobility in India. Upon purchasing an electric vehicle, the buyer will receive an e-voucher via the scheme portal. This voucher, linked to the buyer’s Aadhaar and mobile number, will serve as proof of eligibility for demand incentives.The move is seen as a part of the government’s larger vision of reducing vehicular emissions and promoting sustainable transportation solutions.
