CM Revanth Reddy Signs File to Amend Telangana Panchayat Raj Act

Hyderabad, October 22, 2025:

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has officially signed the file approving the *amendment to the Panchayat Raj Act, a major step toward *removing the two-child norm in local body elections.

The state government had recently decided to abolish the rule that barred individuals with more than two children from contesting in Gram Panchayat and other local body elections. The Chief Minister’s signature on the amendment file marks the final step before the ordinance is issued.

According to official sources, the amendment proposal will be placed before the Telangana Cabinet on Thursday for its formal approval. Once cleared by the Cabinet, the file will be sent to the *Governor for consent, after which an *ordinance will be issued to bring the changes into effect immediately.

With this amendment, candidates will now be eligible to contest for positions such as *Sarpanch, Ward Member, MPTC, and ZPTC, irrespective of the number of children they have. This move is expected to *encourage greater participation in rural governance and empower more citizens to engage in democratic processes.

Government officials have stated that the decision reflects the progressive outlook of the Telangana administration under CM Revanth Reddy, focusing on inclusive representation rather than population control restrictions. Political observers believe that this change could have a significant impact on the upcoming local body elections in the state.
