Hyderabad: A dramatic drug enforcement operation in Hyderabad turned violent on Sunday afternoon after an alleged drug peddler rammed his car into police personnel while attempting to escape during a raid in the Abids area.
According to police, the Narcotics Enforcement Wing received specific information about a drug deal taking place near Payal Footwear in Abids. Acting on the tip-off, officers kept the area under surveillance and intercepted the suspect while he was allegedly delivering narcotics
Instead of cooperating, the accused allegedly pretended to pull his vehicle aside before suddenly accelerating and driving towards the police team. Constable Mahender sustained a leg fracture in the incident, while Inspector Srikanth and Constable Vamsidhar suffered minor injuries
The suspect attempted to flee but was chased by police and eventually apprehended near Afzalgunj.
Police identified the accused as Saif, a resident of Hussaini Alam. Injured Constable Mahender was shifted to Yashoda Hospital for treatment.
Based on Mahender’s complaint, police have registered attempt to murder cases against the accused at both the Abids and Afzalgunj Police Stations. Further investigation is underway.
