In a major crackdown on interstate drug trafficking, the Special Task Force (STF) of the West Bengal Police, in coordination with Purulia District Police, intercepted a large consignment of ganja during a late-night operation on National Highway-18 near the Belkuri Toll Plaza under Purulia Muffasil Police Station.
Acting on specific intelligence, police stopped a truck travelling from Odisha towards Asansol and recovered a substantial quantity of ganja concealed inside a specially built cavity behind the driver’s seat. Two escort vehicles accompanying the truck were also intercepted during the operation.
A total of seven individuals have been detained in connection with the case, and further investigation is underway to identify the wider interstate trafficking network.
The West Bengal Government reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against illegal drug trafficking, stating that strict action will continue against criminal networks involved in narcotics. The successful operation was praised as a testament to the vigilance and coordinated efforts of the state’s law enforcement agencies.
