Hyderabad: Stressing that “Every rupee spent belongs to the public and must be accounted for with complete transparency,” Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) addressed a training programme for Accounts Officers of the Telangana Special Police Battalions, emphasizing the importance of financial discipline and accountability.
The DGP said financial accountability is not merely a procedural formality but a core responsibility of every officer. During recent district visits and review meetings with Superintendents of Police, several shortcomings in budget management came to light, including instances where district police chiefs were unaware of their own budgetary position.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to timely funding, the DGP said he personally intervened in a case where delays in the release of funds caused hardship to police personnel. He directed the Accounts Wing to ensure that maintenance funds reach Station House Officers (SHOs) without unnecessary delays.
The DGP also emphasized that digitisation should strengthen financial scrutiny rather than weaken it. He instructed accountants to carefully verify every bill instead of merely forwarding digital files and spreadsheets, warning that even minor lapses could have serious consequences.
Issuing a strong warning, the DGP stated that any official found responsible for financial irregularities would face legal action as well as departmental proceedings, including suspension or dismissal.
He further directed that accounts related to police welfare schemes—including health protection, loans, and welfare funds—be maintained with complete accuracy and transparency, as these directly impact the welfare of police personnel and their families.
