Former Minister and MLA Jagadish Reddy has strongly criticised the Congress government over water allocation from Nagarjuna Sagar, alleging that farmers are being denied irrigation despite the reservoir receiving water.
Reacting to Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy’s reported remarks that farmers would not be supplied water even if Nagarjuna Sagar fills up, Jagadish Reddy questioned the government’s approach and launched a sharp attack on the minister.
He said water from the Nagarjuna Sagar Left Canal alone can support cultivation across 4 to 5 lakh acres. He further alleged that despite favourable conditions, farmers in Mahabubnagar are unable to begin their first crop because of the Congress government’s alleged failures.
Jagadish Reddy claimed that the situation in Nalgonda and around Nagarjuna Sagar is even more serious. He alleged that while Telangana is not receiving sufficient inflows into Nagarjuna Sagar, the authorities are being pressured to open the Pothireddypadu gates, allowing water to flow towards Andhra Pradesh.
He accused the Revanth Reddy-led Congress government of betraying farmers and warned that the Nagarjuna Sagar region may continue to face a severe water shortage if the government does not take immediate action.
