Hyderabad: The 80th Independence Day celebrations were held grandly at TGSRTC Bus Bhavan in Hyderabad. TGSRTC VC & MD Sri Y. Nagi Reddy hoisted the national flag and paid tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country’s freedom.
Speaking on the occasion, Nagi Reddy said that independence was achieved through the sacrifices of thousands of freedom fighters. He highlighted the crucial role played by public transport in the progress of the nation and Telangana.
Praising RTC drivers, conductors, garage mechanics and other employees, he described them as “Transport Warriors” who work tirelessly from early morning, regardless of weather conditions, to safely transport lakhs of passengers every day.
The MD said TGSRTC is successfully implementing the Mahalakshmi free bus travel scheme for women, along with free and concessional passes for students and persons with disabilities. He said these initiatives are contributing to the socio-economic development of various sections of society.
He further stated that TGSRTC is moving towards a modern and eco-friendly transport system. Digital services such as UPI and card payments, along with live bus tracking facilities, have been introduced for passenger convenience.
Women’s safety is also being given priority through the installation of CCTV cameras and panic buttons in buses. The corporation is adding more electric buses to reduce pollution and replacing older buses with new Super Luxury and Express buses.
Under its Green RTC initiative, TGSRTC is also focusing on solar panels and large-scale tree plantation. The corporation is strengthening cargo and logistics services to increase revenue while improving connectivity to rural areas.
Nagi Reddy said employee welfare remains a top priority, with free health check-ups, medical camps and recognition for accident-free drivers and high-performing staff.
During the celebrations, employees took a pledge to expand services across all regions and make TGSRTC a national leader in public service.
Executive Directors Ch. Venkanna and M. Rajashekhar, FA Vijayapushpa, JD Narmada, CPM Ushadevi, CME Johnny Reddy, CTM Sridevi and several other officials and employees participated in the celebrations.
