KTR Warns of Padayatra if Nagarjuna Sagar Left Canal Water Schedule Is Not Released by September 14

BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) has urged the Telangana government to release a water-release schedule for farmers dependent on the Nagarjuna Sagar Left Canal.

KTR said the government must announce the schedule by September 14. He warned that farmers would otherwise launch a protest.

He recalled a similar struggle led by BRS chief K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) in 2003.

According to KTR, KCR undertook a padayatra from Kodad to Haliya over the Nagarjuna Sagar Left Canal issue. The march was aimed at pressing the government to release irrigation water for farmers. Historical accounts also record KCR’s 2003 Kodad-Haliya padayatra in the Nagarjuna Sagar Left Canal command area.

KTR said the present government should act without further delay. He stressed that irrigation water is crucial for farmers in the canal command area.

The Nagarjuna Sagar Project’s Left Main Canal serves large agricultural areas across Telangana. Official project information lists extensive command areas in Nalgonda, Suryapet and Khammam districts.

“If the government fails to release the schedule by September 14, we will undertake a padayatra from Kodad to Haliya,” KTR said.

He added that thousands of farmers would join the proposed march. The objective, he said, would be to press the government to release water through the canal.

The statement is likely to intensify the political debate over irrigation water availability in the Nagarjuna Sagar Left Canal command area.
