*Hyderabad, September 19, 2024:* Former minister Koppula Eshwar has strongly condemned the arrest of farmers protesting the non-implementation of the promised loan waivers, calling the actions of the Revanth Reddy-led Telangana government undemocratic and a violation of farmers’ rights.During a press interaction, Eshwar questioned the rationale behind arresting farmers who were peacefully protesting. “Will farmers be arrested if they simply ask for the loan waiver that was promised to them?” he asked, adding that such measures were completely against the principles of democracy. Eshwar also took aim at Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, reminding the public of his earlier promises. “What do you mean by ‘Indiramma Rajyaam’ when you are betraying the very farmers who trusted you? Didn’t the Chief Minister say that loan waivers would be completed simultaneously before August 15? If that’s the case, why are farmers still protesting on the streets today?”Reports have surfaced that farmers, frustrated by the delay in the promised loan waivers, have been staging peaceful demonstrations across the state. However, instead of addressing their concerns, the government has reportedly resorted to pre-emptive arrests and detentions, sparking outrage among farming communities and opposition leaders alike.Eshwar further criticized the Revanth Reddy government for using the police act to suppress the farmers’ voices. “This government is trying to strangle farmers under the guise of law enforcement,” he said. According to Eshwar, even as farmers visit collectorates, agricultural offices, and banks to demand their loan waivers, they are met with neglect and hostility from the government. In a passionate appeal, Eshwar called upon farmers across the state to rise up and demand what is rightfully theirs. He urged the government to immediately waive off the loans as promised and withdraw the cases filed against the protesting farmers.Eshwar reassured the farmers that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party, to which he belongs, will stand by them in their fight for justice. “The BRS party will not abandon you. We will continue to support you until your demands are met,” he vowed. As the farmers’ protests gain momentum across the state, the government’s response to their demands is being closely watched, with the situation likely to have major political ramifications in the months ahead.
