**Hyderabad, September 25, 2024** – In a significant move, the Telangana government is reportedly planning to cancel around 15 lakh white ration cards across the state due to non-compliance with the mandatory E-KYC (Electronic Know Your Customer) process. Sources indicate that the government is adopting a stringent approach to ensure that only eligible citizens receive ration benefits.According to reports, the canceled cards belong to beneficiaries who failed to complete the E-KYC process, which was introduced to streamline and authenticate the distribution of ration and welfare benefits. The government had repeatedly urged cardholders to comply with the E-KYC requirements, but many have not responded, leading to the impending cancellations.Currently, there are approximately 89.96 lakh ration cards in Telangana. Moving forward, the state government is set to adopt a more data-driven approach in issuing new ration cards. The Citizen 360 platform will now be used to grant ration cards only to those deemed eligible, based on various data points to ensure fairness and efficiency in the system. This massive overhaul in the ration card system has sparked concerns among citizens, with many rushing to complete their E-KYC process to avoid losing access to subsidized food grains and other welfare benefits.Government officials have stated that the cancellations are part of a larger effort to eliminate ineligible beneficiaries and reduce misuse of welfare schemes, ensuring that the benefits reach those who genuinely need them. However, the move has also led to anxiety among some beneficiaries, particularly those in remote areas who may have faced difficulties in accessing the E-KYC process.
