**October 18, 2024****New Delhi** – The Supreme Court of India is set to continue its hearing of a plea challenging the order of the Karnataka High Court that restored a bribery complaint against former Karnataka Chief Minister **B.S. Yediyurappa**, his son **B.Y. Vijayendra**, and others. The complaint alleges offences under the **Prevention of Corruption Act**, marking a significant development in the high-profile political case. The bribery complaint, initially dismissed by a lower court, was revived by the Karnataka High Court earlier this year. The case revolves around allegations that Yediyurappa, during his tenure as Chief Minister, along with his son Vijayendra, had received illegal gratification from a contractor in exchange for awarding government contracts. The charges are based on provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, which criminalizes bribery and corruption by public officials.Yediyurappa and his son approached the Supreme Court, challenging the Karnataka High Court’s decision to restore the bribery complaint. The petitioners argued that the complaint was frivolous and politically motivated, aimed at tarnishing their public image. They claimed there was no credible evidence to support the allegations, calling for the dismissal of the complaint once again. In its order, the Karnataka High Court reinstated the bribery complaint, holding that there were sufficient grounds to allow the investigation to continue. The court observed that the complaint involved serious charges of corruption by public officials, which warranted a deeper probe. This decision prompted the accused to seek relief from the Supreme Court.
