A devastating flash flood in the *Bhotekoshi River, which forms the border between *Nepal and China in *Rasuwa district, has destroyed the *Miteri Bridge and washed away several vehicles parked at the Timure dry port, officials confirmed.
Triggered by intense rainfall in Tibet, the flood struck the area in the early hours of Tuesday, causing significant infrastructure damage and stranding multiple individuals, including law enforcement officers.
Over 200 Vehicles Affected as Customs Port Submerges
Arjun Paudel, Chief District Officer of Rasuwa, stated that the floodwaters engulfed the dry port and carried away many vehicles parked near the riverbank. “At the time of the flood, around 200 vehicles were present at the customs port,” he said in a telephonic conversation with ANI.
The *Miteri Bridge, a vital cross-border structure between Nepal and China, has been *completely washed away, disrupting trade and cross-border movement.
12 Police Personnel Trapped, Army Called in for Rescue
Emergency efforts are in full swing as 12 Nepal Police officers have reportedly been *trapped in the flood-affected locality. Authorities are working with the *Nepal Army to launch search and rescue operations.
“The water level remains dangerously high, and inclement weather is hampering the relief efforts,” Paudel added.
Reports of Missing Persons Still Unconfirmed
While no human fatalities have been officially confirmed yet, some individuals may have been swept away along with the vehicles. These people were believed to be asleep in their vehicles when the flood struck around 3:00 AM local time.
“We have received information that a few individuals might have been carried away with their vehicles. We are currently verifying these claims,” said Druba Prasad Adhikari, Assistant Chief District Officer of Rasuwagadhi.
Cause of Flood Under Investigation
The exact cause of the flash flood is still under investigation. However, officials suspect that heavy downpour in China’s Tibetan region may have triggered the sudden rise in river levels. No official confirmation has been made yet regarding the root cause.
Local Advisory: Stay Away from Trishuli Riverbanks
As a precautionary measure, the local administration has issued alerts to residents along the Trishuli River, advising them to stay vigilant and avoid riverbanks until water levels subside.
Authorities are coordinating with disaster response teams to monitor the situation closely.
