A political ripple was triggered after RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat’s recent comments about the retirement of political leaders aged 75 and above. The remarks have now been linked by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to *Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is 74. In a sharp political reaction, Siddaramaiah said that this could be a *“golden opportunity for BJP” to appoint a Dalit as Prime Minister.
RSS Chief’s Statement Reignites Modi Retirement Debate
RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat recently made a generic statement suggesting that political leaders should step aside after turning 75 to make way for the younger generation. While no names were taken, Siddaramaiah interpreted it as a clear *hint at PM Modi’s retirement, fueling discussions on *BJP’s leadership succession plan.
Siddaramaiah’s Take: “A Dalit PM is BJP’s Best Bet Now”
Speaking to the media, CM Siddaramaiah remarked,
“If the RSS really wants change, this is the perfect moment for the BJP to nominate a Dalit Prime Minister. That would be a true step toward inclusive politics.”
He also added that the statement indirectly refers to Modi, and BJP should capitalize on the momentum by putting forward a leader from a marginalized background.
BJP Counter: Vijayendra Defends Kharge, Calls Out Congress
Responding to Siddaramaiah’s comments, Karnataka BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra took a dig at the Congress leadership, stating that if they are genuinely committed to empowering the underprivileged, they should project AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge as their PM candidate.
He emphasized that Congress must walk the talk on social justice, especially for SC and ST communities.
Siddaramaiah Lauds Kharge’s Rise
In his counter-response, Siddaramaiah praised *Mallikarjun Kharge, calling him not just the AICC President, but also a *seasoned statesman.
“Kharge never played the Dalit card. His rise in politics is the result of decades of dedication and public service,” said Siddaramaiah.
He asserted that Congress has always provided space for grassroots leaders and Kharge is a living example of that philosophy.
Why This Matters:
- PM Modi turns 75 in 2025, the unofficial retirement age for BJP leaders.
- RSS chief’s timing of the statement raised eyebrows in political circles.
- Political observers see this as part of succession planning within BJP.
- Dalit representation at the highest level continues to be a politically sensitive topic.
