Jharkhand Goods Trains Derail Near Chandil, Causing Major Disruptions—but No Injuries Reported

Chandil, Jharkhand: August 9, 2025 –

In the early hours of Saturday, two goods trains passing each other in opposite directions derailed near Chandil in Saraikela-Kharsawa district, according to officials at South Eastern Railway’s Adra Division. Thankfully, no passengers or railway staff were harmed.

Railway authorities say that a few carriages from one freight train slipped off the track and collided with the side of another on the adjacent line—triggering additional derailments on the double-track section between Chandil and Nimdih. As a result, train operations between Chandil and Gunda Bihar were brought to a halt.

Vikash Kumar, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of Adra Division, confirmed that restoration efforts are underway. Meanwhile, multiple express and passenger trains have been either diverted or temporarily canceled. Among those affected are the Vande Bharat Express services between Howrah-Ranchi and Patna-Tatanagar, the Dhanbad-Tatanagar-Dhanbad Express, and the Tatanagar-Buxar Express. The Bhubaneswar–New Delhi Rajdhani and Purushottam Express trains have been rerouted via alternative corridors, and several MEMU services remain canceled for the day.
