In a major anti-corruption operation, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) trapped a Village Revenue Officer (VRO) in Vizianagaram district while she was allegedly accepting a bribe.
According to ACB DSP *Ramya, the accused officer, **K. Satyavati, was working as VRO in Singarayapalem village of Veppada mandal. She was caught while taking a bribe of *₹1 lakh from a farmer.
Bribe Demand for Mutation Process
The farmer had applied for mutation of agricultural land records. During the process, the VRO allegedly demanded ₹1.70 lakh for clearing the application. Acting on the farmer’s complaint, the ACB laid a trap on Thursday evening.
Officials said the farmer handed over part of the demanded amount—₹1 lakh—near Kallala village, Veppada, when the officer was caught red-handed.
Investigation Underway
After the arrest, ACB officials searched the MRO office records connected to the case. The documents are being verified to find out if more irregularities are involved.
Authorities confirmed that the officer would face charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The investigation is expected to bring out further details on whether others were involved in the bribe transaction.
Growing Concern Over Corruption in Revenue Department
This incident has once again brought public attention to corruption in land and revenue offices. Farmers often complain about harassment and heavy bribe demands during mutation and other land-related procedures.
