August 22, 2024 — Sub-Lieutenant Anamika B. Rajiv has made history as the first woman officer to pilot a helicopter in the Indian Navy. This milestone was achieved at the Indian Naval Air Station INS Rajali in Tamil Nadu.Rajiv’s achievement highlights the growing role of women in the Indian Navy, which has previously seen female pilots operating maritime surveillance helicopters such as the Dornier-228. Her pioneering role as a helicopter pilot marks a significant advancement in the representation of women in naval aviation.
