Tragic Death of Boy Due to Rabies Highlights Issues of Poverty and Medical Negligence

Alluri Sitaramaraju District, August 7 — A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Thimulabandha village, Gudenkottaveedhi mandal, involving 13-year-old Karthik, the son of Korra Subbarao. Karthik, who had been bitten by a stray dog, was not administered the necessary rabies vaccine. As a result, his condition deteriorated severely.Karthik was first taken to Chintapalli Hospital, where doctors recommended transfer to Visakhapatnam KGH for more advanced treatment. On August 3, Karthik was transported to Visakhapatnam, but doctors there discovered that the dog which bit him had not been vaccinated and that his health had deteriorated beyond recovery. They advised taking him back home.In a tragic turn of events, Karthik passed away on the RTC bus en route to Arakuloya. Upon discovering their son’s death, his parents alighted at Arakuloya and were seen mourning by the roadside, holding the child’s body. Distressed locals contributed money to assist the grieving family. Araku MP Tanujarani intervened, arranging for an ambulance to help transport the body.This incident has drawn attention to the severe implications of neglecting timely medical care and the challenges faced by impoverished families in accessing essential services.
