In a scathing critique of the Union Budget 2024-25, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi dubbed it a “Kursi Bachao Budget,” accusing the government of prioritizing political alliances over the welfare of the common people.Presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, this budget, according to Gandhi, fails to address the pressing issues faced by ordinary citizens. He lamented the budget’s focus on appeasing allies and criticized it as a mere rehash of previous budgets and the Congress manifesto, describing it as “copy and paste governance.””The government has ignored the plight of the common man in favor of pleasing its friends,” Gandhi remarked, highlighting what he perceives as a lack of substantive relief measures for the masses. He expressed disappointment that the budget did not adequately tackle unemployment, which he termed a national crisis.Furthermore, the Congress party echoed Gandhi’s sentiments, lambasting the budget for its purported lack of concrete actions and accusing the government of succumbing to political pressures rather than addressing genuine concerns.
