New Delhi, November 15, 2025:
Political observers say Prime Minister Narendra Modi continues to dominate India’s political landscape because he faces no strong challenger. The recent Bihar results once again show how firmly the BJP has held its ground over the last decade.
A Decade of Modi’s Political Strength
Leaders like Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu often remark that “this decade belongs to Modi.” Whether one agrees or not, the fact remains that Modi’s leadership has kept the BJP steadily ahead.
Normally, governments that stay in power for ten years face strong voter fatigue. Many even collapse in the next election due to rising public dissatisfaction. But the BJP has not faced that trend. Instead, it continues to win both state and national elections with momentum. Where it lacks numbers, the party forms alliances and moves forward with strong strategy.
A Weak Opposition Makes Modi Stronger
Modi’s rise as a national leader began when the Congress leadership was losing its ground. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh led the country for ten years, but the party failed to build a strong political front. Most of the control stayed with Sonia Gandhi, and her health issues pushed her away from active politics.
Rahul Gandhi could not establish himself as a dependable leader during this period. His team often appeared confused, and several public moments raised questions about his political clarity. He also developed a reputation for stepping back during crises. This gave BJP a clear, open field.
Voters Opposing BJP Still Hesitate to Choose Rahul Gandhi
Even people who strongly disagree with BJP’s style of politics hesitate to accept Rahul Gandhi as a national alternative. They criticise Modi but don’t see Rahul as a leader who can take charge.
Rahul has had many opportunities to prove his ability. Yet, he continues to face electoral setbacks. Many voters see him as someone waiting for public sympathy rather than working to earn political authority. His approach often weakens Congress at crucial moments.
Modi Faces No Equal; Congress Fails to Build Another Leader
Congress has continued to push Rahul Gandhi as its prime face, but voters remain unconvinced. For the BJP, this has become a major advantage. Because Rahul has not been able to rise, no other strong national figure has emerged from the opposition.
Political experts say India may only see a new challenger after Modi retires. Until then, the Congress might continue to struggle in both national and state-level politics. Several states that once favored Congress now show signs of shifting permanently away from the party.
