In a major relief to vehicle owners, the Central Government has eased the strict rule that required non-FASTag users to pay double the toll fee at national highways. The new decision offers an alternative payment method while still encouraging digital toll collection.
According to the latest update, motorists without a valid FASTag can now pay their toll charges through *UPI. However, they must pay an *additional 25% fee on the standard toll amount. This new system will officially come into force from tomorrow across all applicable toll plazas.
Officials stated that the relaxed rule aims to reduce congestion at toll booths and support users who are yet to switch to FASTag. The government also noted that FASTag remains the preferred mode due to faster passage and reduced contact at toll points.
Transport authorities are urging vehicle owners to adopt FASTag at the earliest to avoid extra charges and enjoy smoother travel on national highways.
