Supreme Court Suggests Special Courts for Manipur Violence Cases

The Supreme Court on Monday, August 10, asked the governments of Manipur and Assam, along with other concerned authorities, to consider setting up two special trial courts exclusively to hear cases being investigated by the CBI and NIA arising from the 2023 ethnic violence in Manipur.

The move is aimed at ensuring the speedy and effective trial of cases related to the violence. The court asked the concerned governments and authorities to examine the feasibility of establishing dedicated courts for these matters.

The 2023 ethnic clashes in Manipur resulted in widespread violence and displacement, with several cases subsequently taken up for investigation by central agencies.
