Tollywood Producers’ Council Rejects Workers’ Demands – Opens Doors to Non-Union Talent

Hyderabad, August 6, 2025:

A major twist has emerged in the ongoing wage dispute between film workers and producers in the Telugu film industry. While the Film Employees Federation has called for a strike demanding a 30% hike in wages, the Producers’ Council has rejected the demands and made a bold announcement — stating that talented individuals will be given opportunities regardless of union affiliation.

Producers’ Council Stands Firm: “Skill Will Be Recognized Over Union Labels”

In a recently held emergency meeting, the Producers’ Council unanimously passed a resolution to encourage talent outside of union boundaries. They urged eligible individuals to apply through the official website and provided a contact email for submissions. The council’s message is clear — the industry should be driven by skill, not just union membership.

30% Wage Hike Demand Behind the Strike

Film workers, under the Telugu Film Industry Employees Federation, are demanding a 30% wage hike based on a previously agreed contract with the Producers’ Council. As per the agreement, the wage revision was due by June 30, after a three-year period. However, despite repeated appeals over the past four months, the workers allege that the council has failed to respond.

Producers Say ‘No’ to Pressure — Call for Legal, Fair Process

Speaking to the media, Producers’ Council Secretary Prasanna Kumar said:

“We are not against poor workers. We have always stood by them. But insisting on working only with union members is unfair. It violates the rules of the Competition Commission of India.”

He added that producers are already under financial stress, and a strike at such a time is inappropriate.

“We want everyone to come together like a family. Let’s discuss, not divide,” he appealed.

Who Will the Revised Wages Apply To?

The proposed wage hike would apply to 24 different crafts and includes workers represented by 13 unions. Federation leaders have made it clear that workers will participate only in film shoots where producers agree to the 30% hike. Talks have already been held in four rounds with the Film Chamber, but no breakthrough has been achieved yet.

Federation’s Response – “We Need Justice”

The *Telugu Film Industry Employees Federation, affiliated with the *All India Film Employees Confederation (UNI-MEI), expressed their disappointment over the council’s lack of response.
President *Anil Kumar Vallabhaneni, General Secretary **Ammiraju Kulimilli, and *T.V. Alexander stated that despite multiple rounds of negotiations, there has been no satisfactory resolution. They emphasized the need for a fair deal for workers across all crafts.
