Eluru District SP Issues Warning Against Online Fraud Using Morphing Techniques

**Eluru, 24 September 2024** – In a significant alert to the public, Eluru District Superintendent of Police Pratap Kishore has issued a warning regarding a rise in fraudulent activities on social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. The warning comes in response to reports of scammers morphing and de-faking publicly available photos and videos to deceive individuals, particularly by impersonating government officials, district collectors, and politicians.The SP highlighted that these fraudsters often create fake profiles and use manipulated images of celebrities to solicit funds from unsuspecting victims. “These scammers are sending messages that appear genuine but are intended to cheat people out of their money,” Pratap Kishore stated in his announcement.He urged the community to be vigilant and exercise caution when receiving requests for money, especially those accompanied by images of well-known personalities. “If anyone approaches you for financial help using photos and claims to be someone of importance, do not fall prey to their tactics. Such occurrences are not legitimate,” he emphasized.The SP encouraged residents to report any suspicious activities or messages they encounter to the police control room immediately. “We urge everyone to stay alert and informed to prevent falling victim to these frauds,” he added.This warning aims to raise awareness about the dangers of online scams and the importance of verifying information before responding to requests for financial assistance.
