Kill Me and Build the Road”: Telangana Farmer Protests Low Compensation for Highway Land

Karimnagar, Telangana — July 2:
Tensions flared in Manakondur mandal of Karimnagar district as farmers strongly protested against the government’s land acquisition for National Highway-563 (NH-563). Accusing the authorities of offering unjust compensation, many farmers refused to hand over their land.

One such emotional protest came from *Kaniganti Kumar, a farmer from *Chenjarla village, who shouted, “Kill me and build the road through my land,” as police tried to remove him from the site.

Farmer Claims Massive Compensation Gap

Kumar alleged that the government offered him just ₹63,000 per acre for his land. However, he stated that the actual market rate exceeds ₹10 lakh per acre. The stark difference triggered his resistance as he physically tried to stop the ongoing road construction.

According to reports, the road-laying work began on Kumar’s land without any prior notice or proper compensation. Surrounded by a heavy police presence, he confronted the officials, questioning how they could begin work without due process.

Protest Ends in Arrest

As Kumar continued to obstruct the construction activity, police detained him on-site. Authorities, however, proceeded with the road work despite growing unrest in the area.

The incident has sparked widespread concern among farmers in *multiple villages of Manakondur, who say they’re facing similar issues. Several farmers argue that the *offered compensation is far below fair market value, and they are demanding transparency, proper notices, and revised payments before parting with their land.

Rising Anger Across Mandal

The NH-563 project, while crucial for regional development, is now at the center of local unrest. Farmers across the region are challenging the authorities and calling for a review of the compensation packages.

The land acquisition row has drawn attention to broader concerns of farmers in Telangana, who say their livelihoods are being disrupted without adequate legal protection or negotiation.
