**August 27, 2024**In response to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs’ decision to create five new districts in Ladakh, Ladakh MP Mohmad Haneefa has expressed both gratitude and concern. Haneefa publicly thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the new administrative divisions, which include Dras, Zanskar, Nubra, Sham, and Changthang. However, Haneefa also voiced a strong plea regarding the oversight of Kargil, the most populous region in Ladakh. He highlighted longstanding demands for additional districts within Kargil, arguing that the recent announcement did not adequately address the needs of this area. In his statement, Haneefa urged Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Shah to reconsider the decision, emphasizing the necessity of developing the newly formed districts into fully functional administrative units with all required infrastructure. He also called for attention to the areas in Kargil that have been overlooked in this latest reorganization. The announcement has sparked a mixed reaction, with many in Ladakh welcoming the new districts while others, like Haneefa, advocate for further revisions to ensure equitable development across the region.
