In a sharp critique following the Congress party’s defeat in the Haryana elections, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi expressed disappointment at the opposition’s failure to capitalize on anti-incumbency against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Owaisi pointed out that Congress had a “golden opportunity” to defeat the BJP but failed to do so due to internal discord.”Congress should have taken advantage of the 10 years of anti-incumbency, but it seems that their internal differences allowed BJP to benefit,” Owaisi said. He further added, “Even a small chance given to BJP in an electoral battle can turn into an advantage for them. After the 2024 Parliament elections, I had said that those calling it a victory over hatred were mistaken.”The AIMIM leader did not mince words, holding Congress accountable for its inability to offer a strong opposition in Haryana. With the BJP securing another victory, Owaisi’s criticism underlined Congress’s missed opportunity in the state.Owaisi also reiterated his party’s opposition to the abolition of Article 370, calling it a constitutional error. He criticized the provision in the bill that allows the Lieutenant Governor (LG) to appoint five MLAs, a power previously held by the Chief Minister (CM).”If the sitting CM cannot appoint an MLA and the LG, who is appointed by the Prime Minister, can do so, what is the role of the CM? This makes Omar Abdullah the weakest CM ever in Indian history,” Owaisi remarked. He further emphasized that the people of Kashmir had shown their discontent against the abrogation of Article 370, delivering a decisive electoral verdict. Owaisi also accused the BJP of trying to create divisions between the Pahadis and Gujjars, but noted that their efforts had failed. “BJP has won 27 seats in Jammu, and Congress has won only one seat, which is the real concern,” he concluded.
