Hyderabad is witnessing a growing plea from parents urging the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRAA) to delay the demolition of educational institutions that allegedly encroach upon lake lands. The request comes as the academic year is in full swing, and parents are concerned about the impact on their children’s education.Among the institutions reportedly slated for demolition are:- **Fatima Owaisi College**, managed by the Salar-e-Millat Educational Trust led by AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi.- **Anurag Educational Institutions**, owned by BRS MLA Palla Rajeshwar Reddy.- **Malla Reddy Group of Institutions**, operated by the family of former minister and BRS MLA Ch Malla Reddy.Sources indicate that these institutions have been identified for allegedly encroaching on lake land. HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath confirmed that numerous parents have petitioned him to postpone the demolition until the end of the current academic year. “Parents are coming in groups, petitioning me to spare the institutions. They are concerned about their wards’ academic year,” Ranganath said. While a decision has not yet been made, Ranganath suggested that a policy decision from the government level is imminent. HYDRAA sources noted that even if temporary exemptions are granted, demolition would likely occur during the summer holidays, allowing institutions time to relocate.Satellite images from 2014, 2017, and 2024, provided by Team Climate Congress and social activist Lubna Sarwath, highlight the extent of encroachments. Sarwath reported that the Salar-e-Millat Trust constructed buildings in Salkam Cheruvu, Chandrayangutta. An FIR has been lodged against Anurag Educational Institutions for alleged encroachment on Nadam Cheruvu in Venkatapur village. Malla Reddy institutions are under scrutiny for obstructing water flow from multiple lakes, with satellite images showing encroachments dating back before 2010.
