AIMIM Shakes Up Bihar Politics Again, Congress–RJD Lose Over 25 Seats Due to Vote Split

Patna, November15, 2025:

In the latest Bihar Assembly elections, Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM delivered another strong performance in the Seemanchal region. The Hyderabad-based party won five seats, matching the Congress in strength and altering the political balance in the region.

AIMIM Matches Congress in Seat Count

AIMIM contested only 29 constituencies yet managed to secure 5 seats and around *2% vote share. Congress, which fought across the state, ended up with *just six seats. Analysts say this has brought both parties to an unexpected level of parity in the region.

Owaisi has been steadily expanding AIMIM across the country with the aim of representing Muslim voters. While the party has struggled in some states, it continues to find strong support in parts of Bihar.

BJP Gains From Seemanchal Vote Split

The division of Muslim votes in Seemanchal continues to play a major role in Bihar’s political outcomes. AIMIM first entered the state in 2015, winning one seat in Kishanganj. Its presence significantly eroded the Congress–RJD vote base at the time.

In *2020, AIMIM captured *five seats in the region, again splitting the anti-BJP vote. Congress and RJD leaders later accused AIMIM of indirectly helping the BJP by dividing Muslim votes.

Tejashwi Yadav Rejects AIMIM Alliance Proposal

Ahead of the latest elections, Owaisi attempted to join the INDIA bloc in Bihar to prevent another BJP advantage. However, Tejashwi Yadav refused to include AIMIM in the alliance.

As a result, AIMIM contested independently and still managed to win five seats. The party also improved its vote share, strengthening its hold in Muslim-dominated areas. Political observers estimate that the split may have cost the Congress-RJD alliance more than 30 seats.

With this performance, AIMIM now holds more Muslim MLAs in Bihar than the Congress, a significant shift in the state’s political map.

Contrast With Telangana: Revanth Reddy’s Smart Alignment

Interestingly, the situation in Telangana shows a different picture. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy recognized the strategic importance of maintaining working relations with AIMIM. He offered the party an MLC seat and secured its support in key areas like Jubilee Hills.

This understanding helped the Congress in Telangana. However, the party’s high command failed to apply similar strategic thinking in states like Bihar, where AIMIM’s exclusion hit the alliance hard.
