Bride Calls Off Wedding at the Last Minute, Groom Alleges ₹10 Lakh Loss

A wedding was called off at the last minute in Pulivendula, YSR Kadapa district, after the bride reportedly refused to marry the groom, saying her mother had threatened to take her life if she went ahead with the marriage.

According to the complaint, the woman, who works in the Animal Husbandry Department in Pulivendula, had become acquainted with a man named Prasad from Vempalli mandal about a year ago. Despite being older than him, she had agreed to marry him.

Prasad’s family reportedly became impressed with the woman after she allegedly arranged for two additional bags of cattle feed to be given to farmers, considering her to be a caring future daughter-in-law.

The families fixed the wedding for Thursday morning. Just four days before the wedding, the couple reportedly travelled to Hyderabad and spent around ₹1.50 lakh on wedding clothes. Prasad’s family had also made extensive preparations, including putting up a shamiana, decorating the house with lights and hosting meals for neighbours.

However, on the wedding day, when Prasad’s family called the bride to ask when she would arrive at the venue, she reportedly did not answer. After repeated calls, she sent a message saying, “Sorry.”

When the family called again, she allegedly answered and said that her mother had warned that she would die if the woman married Prasad. The woman then reportedly switched off her phone.

Prasad subsequently approached the police, alleging that he had been deceived after being assured of marriage and had incurred expenses of around ₹10 lakh.

Police reportedly found during their inquiry that the woman had allegedly been involved in two previous marriages under similar circumstances and had collected money in those cases. They also reportedly found that she had allegedly caused Prasad’s cousin to spend around ₹40,000.

The incident left Prasad and his family deeply disappointed, with the wedding being cancelled at the last moment.
