HYDRA Begins ₹28-Crore Restoration of Nacharam Pedda Cheruvu in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRA) has launched restoration and development works at Nacharam Pedda Cheruvu in Uppal constituency. HYDRA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath inaugurated the project on Thursday.Spread across 108.30 acres, the lake will undergo comprehensive restoration at an estimated cost of ₹28 crore. The project includes desilting up to 10 feet, construction of a strengthened lake bund, walking pathways, seating areas, children’s play zones, parks, open gyms, and yoga platforms to create a public recreational space.Commissioner Ranganath said the restoration is expected to be completed within nine months. He noted that similar HYDRA lake restoration projects have helped reduce monsoon flooding while improving groundwater levels. Plastic waste is also being cleared from the lake, and the project is expected to address long-standing issues such as sewage, foul odour, mosquitoes, and waterlogging, improving the quality of life for nearby residents.During his visit, the Commissioner also inspected Nagireddy Kunta in Yapral, Medchal–Malkajgiri district, following complaints of encroachments within the lake’s Full Tank Level (FTL) area and on adjoining government land. Residents informed officials that diversion and narrowing of the stormwater drain due to encroachments had caused flooding in nearby residential areas. The Commissioner directed officials to take immediate steps to resolve the issue and announced that Nagireddy Kunta would also be taken up for development
